Smoked Salsa & Guacamole Recipe

Since the season of backyard BBQs is upon us, we feel that smoked salsa and guacamole is the perfect way to kick things off! Pair them both with some crunchy tortilla chips and you’ve got yourself the perfect appetizer to serve your guests while you wait for the main course to smoke. We hope you enjoy our smoked salsa and avocados recipe as much as we do!

Smoked Salsa Recipe

Ingredients

  • 2 jalapeño peppers, seeded and halved (can substitute these for other types of peppers depending on how hot you like it)
  • 2 medium-sized tomatoes
  • 1 small white onion, skin removed
  • 2 tablespoons of cilantro, coarsely chopped
  • 2 tablespoons of garlic, coarsely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon of mint leaves, finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon of parsley, finely chopped
  • Juice of one medium-sized lime
  • 3 tablespoon of olive oil
  • Aluminum foil

Preparation and Cooking

  1. Power on your grill and leave the setpoint temperature on SMOKE.
  2. Pre-heat grill for 10 minutes.
  3. In the Smoker box, lay a square of foil over a cooking grid.
  4. Put peppers, tomato, and onion on foil in the smoker box and brush with olive oil. Close lid and smoke for one hour.
  5. Remove vegetables, and finely dice each.
  6. Transfer to a glass bowl and add parsley, mint, cilantro, and garlic, gently fold to mix ingredients.
  7. Serve with tortilla chips!

General Tip: To save time, you can add the ingredients from both the salsa and guacamole recipe and smoke everything at the same time.

Smoked Guacamole Recipe

Ingredients

  • 5 avocados, halved and pitted
  • 2 plum tomatoes, halved
  • 2 jalapeño peppers, seeded and halved (can substitute these for other types of peppers depending on how hot you like it)
  • 1 small red onion
  • Juice of 2 medium-sized limes
  • 2 tablespoons of cilantro, coarsely chopped
  • 2 tablespoons of garlic, coarsely chopped
  • 3 tablespoon of olive oil
  • Salt & pepper to taste
  • Aluminum foil

Preparation & Cooking

  1. Power on your grill and leave the setpoint temperature on SMOKE.
  2. Pre-heat grill for 10 minutes.
  3. In the Smoker box, lay a square of foil over a cooking grid.
  4. Put avocados, tomatoes, peppers, and red onion on foil in the smoker box and brush with olive oil. Close lid and smoke until the avocados are lightly brown (approximately 45 mins)
  5. Remove vegetables, and finely dice each.
  6. Transfer to a glass bowl and add cilantro and garlic, gently fold to mix ingredients.
  7. Serve with tortilla chips!

General Tip: You can choose to cold smoke your avocados for the guacamole. This will take about the same amount of time, but may produce slightly different results.
